Actor's ex-wife looking for $90K in monthly child support

It can be fascinating for New Jersey residents to follow the public lives of actors, singers and other entertainers. Proximity to the Big Apple and the glamorous lifestyles of the rich and famous makes it even easier. But the reality is that celebrities have marriages that fail, child support to pay and futures to consider, just like everyone else whose family plans fall apart.

News reports that deal with exorbitant amounts of money are attention-grabbing. A popular network television actor finds himself in a personal situation that could be compared to the starring role he plays. According to court documents, John Cryer's currently unemployed ex-wife believes his earnings from his role in a highly-successful situation comedy approximate $2 million a month. She claims that her custody of their 13-year-old son has changed from 4 percent to 50 percent, and therefore, her child support payments should increase from $8,000 to nearly $90,000 per month.

Reportedly, the mother maintains this increase would allow her to provide a similar lifestyle for their son as he spends time with each parent, rather than suffering the ups and downs of wealth he experiences presently. She claims the child support modification would grant the opportunity for him to participate in activities with classmates of his prominent private school at the same level, regardless of which custodial parent is caring for him at the time.

Setting aside the extravagance of this particular case, the point on which to focus is the best interest of the child considering the capabilities of the parents. If a support agreement is unattainable without court direction, then that is where solutions will be found. It doesn't matter if parents are rich or poor, working out the best possible arrangement to provide for the children's everyday expenses, medical expenses and lifestyle is at the center of any child support question.
