Divorce ahead for actor Jesse Williams

Apr 27, 2017 | Divorce

New Jersey fans of actor Jesse Williams, who stars on the TV show “Gray’s Anatomy,” may have heard that he is getting a divorce from his wife of nearly five years, Aryn Drake-Lee. She is a real estate broker. The couple have been together for around 10 years and have two children together, a 3-year-old daughter and a son who is almost 2.

Williams, who filed for divorce, has asked for joint legal and physical custody of the children. He has also requested a termination of spousal support.

The couple have not commented on their impending divorce. When the two met, Williams was teaching school in New York, and the two later moved to California together.

This could be significant in the divorce because since Williams was not a TV star when he and Drake-Lee married, they might not have a prenuptial agreement. Furthermore, since California is a community property state, all earnings since their marriage might be considered marital property. New Jersey is not a community property state, but a couple who divorces there will still have to work out a division of property. This could be done between the two of them with the assistance of their respective attorneys. If they are unable to do so, the case might go to litigation. A judge will then make a decision about property division as well as child custody and visitation if there are children and the couple have been unable to reach an agreement on that as well.
