Guiding You Through Divorce

Marriage is a contract through the courts and it requires the courts to break that contract through divorce. Even when spouses seem to have everything figured out between themselves, there are almost always some details the court must address.

Worries about money, your children and making sure you are treated fairly are foremost in your mind. You probably have a lot of questions, including, "What is going to happen to me?"

At Newsome O'Donnell, LLC, Our New Jersey divorce attorneys will help you answer these questions. The attorneys will sit down with you and listen to your situation. They will help you establish your goals for the outcome of your divorce. The attorneys will think hard about the best way to make your goals a reality and come up with creative solutions to your problems.

Our attorneys have extensive experience in all areas of divorce, including:

The Basics Of Starting Your Divorce Proceedings

Either party can request a divorce on grounds of "irreconcilable differences" or 18 months' continuous separation, which are considered to be no-fault grounds. Of course, either party is free to seek a divorce on traditional "fault" grounds. You have to file the proper paperwork for a divorce with the court system to begin, and end, the process.

Family law is "dynamic," meaning that it is always changing. You need an accomplished and knowledgeable lawyer to ensure that your interests are protected. The attorneys are up-to-date on all of the latest changes in the law and in current precedent to represent your best interests.

New Jersey Divorce Lawyers Handling Mediation Cases

The attorneys are prepared to negotiate with your spouse and his or her attorney or work with them through alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation. If you and your spouse simply cannot agree on how to resolve your differences, our team is made up of experienced trial lawyers and they will take your case before a judge.

The managing partners, Lynn Newsome and Ed O'Donnell, are both certified matrimonial attorneys as well as court-approved mediators. Ed is certified as a family law arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, an approved American Bar Association organization. They are available for mediation or arbitration sessions, where they act as the neutral party, helping you and your spouse negotiate a separation agreement. They represent you as your attorney in mediation or arbitration. They also are available to mediate or arbitrate a matter when independently retained as a neutral mediator or arbitrator.
