Stevie J. owes $1.1 million in back child support

May 26, 2016 | Child Support

Many New Jersey parents have to deal with child support issues. The amounts in question may be different, but it is one of the few aspects of divorce or separation that most families can relate to. Stevie J., a musician and actor, is currently facing a lawsuit because of the amount of unpaid child support that he owes.

The musician is reported to owe the mother of his two adult children $1.1 million dollars. He was hoping to settle the matter, but now he has been ordered to stand trial. His children are now 18 and 17 years of age, and he had originally been ordered to make monthly payments in the approximate amount of $8,550.

In spite of the large amount of money that he owes, Stevie J. says he “provided everything that [his children] needed.” His frustration with this situation seems to stem from the impending trial and not the monetary amount he is being asked to pay. Even as the trial grows near, Stevie J. is proud of the positive relationship he still has with his children and thankful that the case has not tarnished it.

Plenty of child support disputes are handled outside of court, but they are still complicated whether or not they go to trial. Many people who are involved in one appreciate the guidance that a family law attorney can provide. For a parent who has not received the support that has been ordered, such an attorney can often suggest a few ways of enforcing it, such as by seeking a wage garnishment order from the court.
